Ceramic plate, Pablo Picasso, (1881 Málaga – Mougins near Cannes 1973), from the ‘Visage Noir’ (Black Face) service, designed by Picasso in 1945. In 1949, Rita Hayworth and Prince Aly Khan married in Vallauris, France. The town of Vallauris presented the happy couple with a complete Visage Noir service to mark the occasion. Incised decoration as a face, painted in black, red and green, stamped “Madoura Plein Feu” and “d’apres Picasso” on the underside and inscribed “Madoura” in handwriting, limited edition of 100 examples, restored, Ø 24 cm, see: Ramie, Alain, Picasso, Catalogue of the edited caramic works 1947-1971, Madoura, p. 30, no. 45
