Knowledge Quiz: Duck press
Finally, our popular HISTORIA Auctionata quiz is back again!
This time, a mysterious, rare, and precious item is hidden in the large collector’s section of the 169th HISTORIA auction from June 18 to 25, 2024.
Under catalog number 4232, you will find a “duck press” from France from the 19th century. Crafted in bronze/brass, silver-plated, and nickel-plated. Richly ornamented, mounted on a shaped, sturdy plinth made of mahogany, height 48 cm.
What might this interesting item have been used for in the past? Certainly not to squeeze the truth out of newspaper ducks, or maybe it was?! But then, what for?
Before Googling, you should let your imagination, your humor, but best of all, your knowledge run free and send us your answers either by email or in the comments of this Facebook post. Sketches and drawings will, of course, also be appreciated.
We will reward the first correct answer with a bottle of champagne; the answer with the greatest humor factor will be honored with a HISTORIA voucher worth EUR 50.
The auction call for the collector’s section Part 1 begins on Saturday, June 22 at 10:00 AM. All answers received by this time will be considered!
Have fun guessing and learning!
