Karl May (1901-1976), German-Canadian expressionist who studied in Prague and Vienna. His works were shown in the Feme exhibition ”Degenerate Art” and later destroyed. After several years in Iran, where he taught at the academy in Tehran, he emigrated to Canada. ”Eating Lion”, color chalk on paper (not fixed), signed and dated ”may 49” lower right, marginal tears, small tear at lower margin, slight traces of storage, 62 x 46 cm
