The 122nd auction offered a diverse range of items. In the painting section, several high-quality works by Dutch painters were up for sale. Cornelis Springer’s "Summer View of Amsterdam, " an oil on wood, increased from a starting price of €6,000 to €26,000. Springer successfully captured the lively everyday bustle of a small street in Amsterdam, placing a rich array of figures in the shadow of a row of trees. The Dutch genre and cityscape painter studied at the Amsterdam Academy under Jan van der Stok, Herman G. ten Cate, and K. Karsen. Springer worked in Amsterdam, Brussels, and temporarily in Germany. Along with Josef Israels, he was chosen by the Ministry of the Interior to assess the plans for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Springer became renowned for the impressive lighting in his city views, which is also evident in the auctioned summer view of Amsterdam.
Several works by the prominent German Informel painter Fred Thieler were offered and sold at the auction. Thieler was a co-founder of the group ZEN 49 and served as Vice President of the Academy of Arts in the 1980s. His large informal compositions, coming directly from the artist’s estate, sold for between €3,000 and €5,500.
A museum-quality historicism decorative pitcher made of ivory with a separate plate in Renaissance style stood out due to its extremely fine carvings and the fully sculpted figure on the handle. This piece was sold for €4,800.
Among numerous figures from Meissen, KPM, and Hutschenreuther, the 122nd auction featured a Meissen figurine group representing the four seasons. The four cherubs symbolizing Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter are painted in polychrome and accented with gold, and they sold for €850.
