Anonymous Old Master of the 1st half of the 17th century Large Bremen Wedding Procession with Council Musicians in front of the Bremen City Panorama. Oil on canvas, 57 x 158 cm, relined, minimally rubbed, restored, framed 84 x 184 cm – In addition to the depiction of the fine wedding party and the ”Bremer Stadtmusikanten”, who were permanently employed by the city council and performed on special occasions, the city view of Bremen seen from the Neustadt is highly interesting. In the Bremen Focke Museum there is a very similar but much smaller painting dated 1618 under inv. no. G. 1032 with the title ”Affkonterfeiung der Stadt Bremen mit samt Ihrer Kleidung in Hochtidtlicken Ehren Dagen. Anno 1618” – We would like to thank Dr. Walter of the Focke Museum for her kind information.
