Carl Emil Uphoff. 1885 Witten – 1971 Worpswede. Stadtwinkel. 1919. oil on canvas, unsigned, inscribed on verso, 69 x 60 cm, some shrinkage, framed 81 x 72 cm – The painting was in the studio of his brother Fritz until the early 1970s. Carl Emil Uphoff began his artistic training with his brother Fritz in 1907 in the so-called ”Folkwang Circle”, supported by Christian Rohlfs, and in 1909 he became a pupil of Henri Matisse in Paris. From 1911 he lived in Worpswede – From the estate of Fritz Uphoff.
