Horst Strempel (1904-1975), German painter who studied in Breslau under Otto Mueller and Oskar Moll and from 1927 under Karl Hofer in Berlin, after the war professor at the Weißensee art academy and fled to the West in 1953. Large-format double portrait of a mother with child, oil on canvas, signed and dated 1970 lower right, verso inscribed “Porträt Frau Ehlers”, provenance: from the sitter’s family, 110 x 70 cm, framed 125 x 85 cm
