Friedrich Seering, 1st half of the 20th
169
Friedrich Seering, 1st half of the 20th century, “Toilette der Venus”, the painting shows a female nude looking at the viewer through a mirror held by a naked boy. The composition is based on a painting by Rubens, which is in the Lichtenstein royal collection. Seering, still very much in the style of National Socialism, has transformed the putto in the original composition into a German youth in the style of the time. The face of Venus is based on a real model. Oil on canvas, signed and dated upper right “Fried. Seering 1949”, newly mounted on stretcher, partially retouched, unframed, 110 x 80 cm
