Georges Frédéric Rötig (1873-1961), important French animal painter, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Benjamin Constant, Georges Lefebvre and Jean Paul Laurens. He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1894, where he was awarded medals in 1902 and 1904. Two Snipes in the Evening Light, oil on canvas, signed lower left, needs cleaning, 34 x 27 cm, framed 44 x 36 cm
