Franz Heckendorf (1888-1962), German expressionist of the Lost Generation, during the Nazi era his paintings were confiscated as degenerate art. In addition, he was sentenced to ten years in prison in 1944 for helping to save Berlin Jews from deportation to concentration camps. His artistic work was initially strongly influenced by Expressionism.
