Anonymous 19th century Chinese marine painter Captain’s portrait of the barque Marie Berg, late 19th century, oil/canvas, unsigned, 47 x 60 cm, framed 61.2 x 75.5 cm – The barque was built in 1879 as the second largest and last of the large sailing ships at Jacob Kraeft’s shipyard in Barth. Voyages between Cardiff-Singapore-Shanghai (Captain W.F. Mohr) in 1882 and between Shanghai-Surrabaya (Indonesia)-Leith (Captain H. Hindrichs) in 1883 are documented. In 1897 she was sold to Gothenburg.
