Vase, Sevres, dated 1886, iron-red Republic of France mark 1887, signed, T(axile) Doat, Taxile-Maximin Doat (1851-1938) joined the Sèvres manufactory in 1877, where he began experimenting with flambé and crystalline glazes and pâte-sur-pâte. Amphora forn, celadon fond with surrounding patriotic inscriptions in blue – ”Haut les coeurs Patriotes francais” (Up the hearts French patriots) and ”Devoir , Patrie, France” (Duty, Fatherland, France), in between three pate-sur-pate medallions containing armed putti, brass mounting, chip to neck, h. 23.5 cm
