Hoffmann, Wilhelm. 1860 – Berlin ?. Draughtsman and illustrator. 33 illustrations for “Demoiselle Engel – Ein Alt-Bremer Hausgeschichte”, written by the Bremen writer Bernhardine Schulze-Smidt (1903). Watercolored pen-and-ink drawings with white heightening over pencil/paper, partly monogrammed W.H., with handwritten text annotations from the novel in brown pen, the drawing intended for the title/preface inscribed upper left “Zeichnungen von W. Hoffmann gestempelt 1903”, sheets ca. 21,5 x 14,5 cm, browned in the passepartout, each under passepartout behind glass in Biedermeier-style frame 30 x 22,5 cm.- Provenance: Collection of the Factoring Bank, Bremen.- Little is known about the illustrator. The drawings found their way into the 1904 edition of the Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt.
