Anonymous, probably Chinese marine painter of the early 20th c. Captain’s portrait of the coastal steamship Tringganu. Circa 1900. oil/canvas mounted on hardboard, illegibly signed lower right, 30 x 43.5 cm, framed 35 x 49hh cm.- Built in 1890, the ship was acquired by Norddeutscher Lloyd in 1899 and used on the hinterland Chinese coastal shipping. After 1907, probably in 1911, she was sold to Japan and renamed Taiyo Maru. En route from Hakodate to Otoru, she ran aground in 1914 and was scrapped.
