Karl May (1901-1976), German-Canadian expressionist who studied in Prague and Vienna. His works were shown in the Feme exhibition ”Degenerate Art” and later destroyed. After several years in Iran, where he taught at the academy in Tehran, he emigrated to Canada. ”Two vultures” from his series of reduced animal depictions reminiscent of Mataré, colored chalk on washed paper (not fixed), signed and dated ”may 49” lower left, slight traces of storage, sheet measures 61.5 x 43 cm
