German portrait painter, mid 18th century, portrait of Count Wilhelm Friedrich Ernst zu Schaumburg-Lippe. Small, representative portrait in cuirass and dark blue jacket, the orange-red sash of the Order of the Black Eagle awarded to him by King Frederick II of Prussia in 1751 draped around his left shoulder, the corresponding star on his chest. At the Prussian court of Frederick II, he belonged to the circle around Voltaire. In 1759 he became one of the most important commanders in the Seven Years’ War.
