Gold lacquer and silver Shibayama Koro, Japan, 2nd half 19th century (Meiji). Tripod base on 3 curved legs with mascarons. Round, bulbous body with 3 matching curved cartouches with fine inlays of mother-of-pearl and other materials on a gold lacquer ground. Lid with sea eagle pommel with half-spread wings. The base, the cartouches and the lid surrounded by polychrome champlevée cloisonné as a flower tendril. One of the 3 cartouches slightly dented on one side, inlay work with a small defect, remnants of glue. A maker’s mark in a gold cartouche under the base, h. 14 cm
