Lidded vase with lizard, Meissen, 21st cent, 1st choice, bulging form merging into a cylindrical neck, domed lid with ball finial, the neck decorated with a plastically applied lizard, peonies and butterflies in underglaze blue, model no. 51322, h. 25 cm, remodeled after an early Meissen vase form in Chinese style designed around 1725, listed as ”Eight pieces detto bouteilles blue and white with long necks and lids, each bouteille with an eydexe”. On July 13, 1726, eight pieces intended as mantelpieces were delivered to the royal court of Augustus the Strong. Cf. exhib. cat. Meissen Blue Painting, Staatl.
