Ceramic tile, ”Singing boys”, w. Italy, 19th / 20th century, Majolica glazed white and blue, group of seven singing boys after the marble relief ”Cantoria 1” by Luca della Robbia from 1432/38, 31 x 21.5 cm, In 1431 Luca della Robbia received a commission for ten marble reliefs for the cathedral in Florence, This series, known as the ”Cantoria”, is now in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence. In addition to marble reliefs, della Robbia also created unmistakable majolica reliefs in the typical blue and white color scheme. Some first-class copies of these reliefs were created in the course of the ”Grand Tours” in the early 19th century,
